Kidney Stones are solid accumulations of material that form inside the kidney. They can cause sudden onset of flank pain and blood in the urine.
Here at Urology Associates we have a dedicated doctor every day to be available to our patients that develop sudden problems with a passing kidney stone.
Xrays and Computerized tomography (CAT scans) of the urinary tract are done here in our office for faster diagnosis and treatment of painful stones.
We offer procedures as electrocorporal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and laser lithotripsy with stone removal the same day a patient comes into our clinic.
ESWL is a noninvasive procedure that uses sound waves to break up a stone into smaller pieces that will pass without pain.
The laser lithotripsy will directly break up the stone and stone pieces are removed.
Some patient with very large kidney stones may require surgical removal of the stones directly from the kidney.
Once the stone is treated we offer evaluation to determine the cause of the stone and educate our patients in ways to prevent future stones.
